Furman Box service provides an easy way to store and share data on Box.com servers. We urge campus users to be mindful of the type of data placed on the Furman Box service. Furman Policy 071.11 Organization Security and Data Classification defines three levels of security for campus data. In addition, FERPA defines requirements for when a service such as Box can be used. The Furman Box service does comply with FERPA requirements, and student class work may be stored on the Box service. However, such data should be carefully protected with appropriate permission settings. As such we advise that, with the exception for FERPA data, Box storage should NOT be used for Level 1 Highly Sensitive data as defined in Furman's data classification policy. The guidelines below are designed to help guide you, but please use good judgment in the use of this service, or contact ITS if you have concerns about what is appropriate to store or share on Furman Box.
